NCLEX-PN Pass Rates

NCLEX-PN Pass Rate

NCLEX-PN Pass RatesOne of the best measuring sticks to use when comparing LPN programs is their students’ annual pass rate on the national NCLEX-PN exam. This number is important because it provides a way to compare the effectiveness of each school at preparing its students for the licensing exam.

Pass rates at different schools can vary considerably due to a number of variables. To give you a general idea of what kind of baseline to look for, consider the following data on national NCLEX-PN pass rates complied by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).

School Accreditation

School Accreditation

accredited lpn schoolsThe very first thing to consider when choosing an LPN program is the school’s accreditation status. Practical nursing program accreditation is governed on a state level – usually by the state board of nursing. These state boards are responsible for ensuring that accredited programs meet nationally-accepted standards for LPN training and education.

The table below contains contact information for the appropriate governing bodies in all 50 states.

Tuition & Financial Aid

Tuition Cost & Financial Aid

LPN scholarships and grantsThe cost of tuition at an LPN program can vary considerably depending on the school you decide to attend. On average, however, most one-year practical nursing programs cost between $10,000 and $15,000 to complete.

It is important to note, however, that the total cost of your education will include more than just the tuition. You will also need to pay for supplies (books, uniforms, equipment, etc.), testing, and other costs associated with completing the required training.

Financial Aid

Because the total cost of going to school to become a practical nurse may be a problem for some students, many institutions provide financial aid to qualified applicants. Contact the schools directly to find out if you qualify.

There are also national organizations that provide grants, loans, and scholarships to prospective practical nurses who meet their criteria. The most popular ones are listed below with an accompanying link to each organization’s website.
